BFA and Co Legals Orchestrates Landmark Deal
Fresh out of an electric sold-out performance at the MSG, Davido, the global music icon, is embarking on a bold new chapter in his career. Partnering with UnitedMasters, Davido is launching Nine+ Records, a label with global ambitions.
This move signifies a major shift for the "Fall" singer, who is transitioning from chart-topping artist to full-fledged music industry executive.
A Vision for Global Domination
The seeds for Nine+ Records were sown at last year's UnitedMasters SelectCon event, where Davido met Steve Stoute, the company's chairman. Stoute, impressed by Davido's talent and vision, encouraged him to dream beyond Afrobeats and consider building a label that could rival industry giants like Bad Boy and Death Row.
Davido, known for his dedication to nurturing new talent, readily embraced the idea. He saw Nine+ Records as an opportunity to empower upcoming artists while solidifying his own legacy.
Building a Legacy Beyond Music
"There's one thing that I'll always love, which is nurturing new talent," says Davido. "I've been doing that since Afrobeats wasn't even Afrobeats."
However, Davido acknowledges the importance of guidance and mentorship. Steve Stoute's experience as a veteran music executive will be invaluable in navigating the complexities of the industry.
Structure and Chemistry: The Keys to Success
Stoute emphasises the importance of structure and a strong team for a fledgling label. He acknowledges Davido's talent but recognises the need for a solid foundation to ensure long-term success.
"He's a super-talented guy," says Stoute. "He's gonna find talented people... It's the guys who had structure with talent that were able to actually go all the way."
Beyond Afrobeats: A World of Music Awaits
Nine+ Records isn't just about replicating Afrobeats' success. Both Davido and Stoute have their sights set on a global audience.
"This is not going to be limited to anything," says Stoute. "We're looking for artists that have that potential and it's not limited to genre. It is limited to great music."
BFA and Co Legals: Facilitating the Future of Music
That this groundbreaking deal was negotiated and closed by Bobo Ajudua, CEO of BFA and Co Legals, Davido's manager. BFA and Co's expertise undoubtedly played a crucial role in bringing this ambitious vision to life.
